5 Ways to Keep Your Long-Distance Relationship Thriving
Long-distance relationships can be tough, especially during the college years. Whether you are hesitant about wanting to start one or you are having trouble maintaining one, here are 5 tips to help your relationship.
1. Have a Date Night
Even though you are not in the same place does not mean that you can’t have a date night. With the invention of Skype, FaceTime and Google Hangouts, being able to see your significant other is easier than ever! My boyfriend and I send each other funny videos watch each other watch them. Just being able to see their face can help you get through the week.
2. Send Some Mail
I love getting mail. A hand-written letter is a nice romantic touch. You don’t need a holiday to send a care package. If your significant other mentions that they aren’t feeling well, send them a Get-Well package! The thought and effort that goes in to creating a package or writing a letter will show them how much you care.
3. Random Messages
If your significant other is like mine, they are not constantly on their phone. I send a text and it may take an hour to get a response. Sending a random text or Facebook message will put a smile on their face. An “I love you” or “Have a great day!” can go a long way.
4. Plan a Trip
Whether you are 4 hours away or 4 states away, having some time to yourself is always nice. If you only have one day together, plan a picnic in a park or go on a hike. Have more time over Winter Break? Plan a mini getaway trip! Go camping, explore a new city or go on a road trip! No matter what you do, the time spent together will be worth it.
5. Live Your Life
Part of being in a long-distance relationship is learning to live without the other person for a little bit. Go out with your friends and have fun! Join a new club or see the latest movie. Enjoy the little things in life and put down your phone. Time flies when you’re having fun and before you know it, you will see your significant other again!
Long-distance relationships can be a challenge, but hopefully these tips help make it a little easier!
