Fashion Goes Out…Hard

Fashion’s Night Out, Florence, Italy.

Fashion has been working hard.

It has fought to stay current, to plan ahead, and to set the style.

It puts all of its time and efforts into making people look and feel their best.

Billions rely on Fashion to do this.

Fashion has a laborious life.

And so, like all hard working and dedicated people, Fashion needs a night out. A night to cut loose, have some fun, and take over an entire city. Many cities, in this case.

Fashion’s Night Out is an event created by Vogue to celebrate and exhibit everything that fashion is and does. In one night, the city (whichever one it may be) is completely taken over by hoards of people, dressed to the nines, looking for the chance to explore and appreciate the designers and brands that make fashion what it is today. September 18th was Fashion’s Night Out first time in Florence, Italy, exactly where I happen to be living for the semester. Bummer, right?

This was my first FNO experience, and it was just that: an experience. The first hurdle: What do you wear to an event with the word “fashion” in the title? After forming a pile of rejected outfits on my bed, my wise words of advice are wear what makes you feel good. There’s no need to go drop a preposterous amount of money on a look for the night. FNO is not about how much money you can spend, but about displaying your own personal style.

What I loved most about this event was the realization of fashion’s ability to bring so many people together. Old and young, rich and starving college student (that’s me). There are no limitations to participating in this night…except for a list at the door of Louis Vuitton.
