In Flight Audio
Ten perfect songs to get you through a long flight.
When hopping on a plane, my number one priority is that my iPod is charged and full of great music to get me through the hours of staring out the window into the sky. When it comes to the type of music, my number one rule is: NO sad or sappy songs. Nothing that brings back bad memories, nothing that makes you miss a friend of family member, and DEFINITELY nothing that reminds you of an ex. Planes are probably on the Top “Ten Worst Places to Cry List”, if there was one. Up beat, happy jams are the way to go. It’s also always a good idea to download some new music right before the flight so that it takes longer to get sick of your songs, which will inevitably happen on an 18 hour flight. So, here is my current In Flight Playlist:
1. Audio Coffee:
Send Me On My Way – Rusted Root
Personally, I love early morning flights. And this is a great, upbeat way to start off a flight at 6am. If you weren’t ready to go when you first sat down on the plant, this song will get you pumped up.
Lovers In Japan – Coldplay
This song always puts a smile on my face. If music gets your imagination going, as it does for me, this one is going to have you picturing all sorts of fun things your going to be doing in your destination country. To be totally honest, this whole album does that for me, but I had to choose just one, and this is definitely the best.
Time To Wander – Gypsy & The Cat (Joan of Arc Remix)
One word: Wanderlust. This one will have you smiling to all the strangers sitting around you and tapping your foot in the most annoying way. If I were you, I’d pump this through my headphones, get out a pen, and write out a list of things you just have to do on your trip.
Mountains – Yuna
This is just an overall great song! It’s a good chick ballad to wake you up and get you in a good mood. Warning: you might replay it the entire flight.
5. Ready for Adventure:
Just Say Yes – Snow Patrol
The title says it all. This song reminds me of the times I’ve said yes to doing things I never normally would have. And you are definitely faced with those opportunities when traveling abroad. This one will get ya ready to say “yes” to adventure. Going abroad, especially at a young age, is a time to try new things, meet new people, and make new memories! With this playing, you’ll be so excited to get off the plane and be in a completely new place.
6. Euro City Days:
Breathe In – Frou Frou
One of my all time favorite songs. This songs gets me thinking about Europe, but specifically London. It might be because they’re British. It reminds me of the beautiful overcast days and walking through the constant traffic of people in Piccadily Square. This one is also a good morning jam. It’s actually good to wake you up at any point in the trip.
7. Turn Down But Still Dreamin’:
I Guess I’m Floating – M83
Hopefully, you’re one of the lucky ones who can sleep on planes. If so, this is the perfect song to get you relaxed and sleepy without being sad or sappy. It’s perfect to close your eyes to, put your head back and think about where you’re going. If you can’t sleep, play this one during the night time of a flight. Look out into the void and listen and day dream. Most of M8’3 music is great for day dreaming. If you like this you should check out “Wait” by them as well.
8. Lets Go!:
Dog Days Are Over – Florence and The Machine
This popular song is another happy one to day dream to. This one will get ya really excited, so play it when you’re less than an hour from you destination! You’ll be stoked and smiley.
Let Go – Frou Frou
Another Frou Frou tune. This is perfect to start playing during your decent into your destination. The title describes it pretty well. It’s all about leaving things behind and letting go, but its not too crazy or loud so it could also help to calm some nerves.
10. Comin’ Home:
40 Day Dream – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
At some point, you’re going to be taking a flight home, ready or not. Hopefully you’ll be thinking of your trip was so amazing that it felt like a dream. That’s where this song comes in. Pull out your phone and flip through all the amazing pictures and Instagrams. Start preparing all the stories you’re going to tell your family and friends. This song inevitably comes with heavy amounts of nostalgia, so turn up the volume because you’re not going to want to forget anything.
