Our ambassador Katie Maraghy stopped by Washington Square to talk to people about the coolest places they have been, strangest foods they have eaten, celebrities they would travel with, and their next dream destination!

Molokini Island

Molokini Island is a crater just over 2 miles off of the coast of Maui, Hawaii. The island is a crescent shape crater which is partially underwater. It is considered a national marine preserve because it is heavily populated by fish and other marine life. The Molokini Island is a popular tourist attraction for people visiting the island of Maui.

Kimberley, Australia

Kimberley is a region of Western Australia. It is a fairly remote area of the continent and is known for its wildlife, diamonds-mining, camping, and barramundi fishing. It is certainly a popular location for people who enjoy eco-tourism and spending time outdoors.

Turkey

Turkey is a country located North of the Arabian Peninsula and South of the Black Sea. Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, boasts a rich culture with elaborate textiles and beautiful architecture including the Byzantine-style Hagia Sophia. The Hagia Sophia is a museum which once was a Greek Orthodox patriarchal basilica and an imperial mosque at different points in history.

Nice, France

Nice is  located on the southern coast of France along the mediterranean sea and French Rivera. It is the fifth most populated city in France and is  known for it’s beaches, beautiful architecture, and wealthy residents. It’s location near the Italian border and access to waterways makes it a great place to go for people who want to see many different cultures in a short of amount of time.

Scotland: Islay Whiskey Tours

Islay is a small, remote island which became home to Celtic monks seeking refuge from dangerous Norsemen. It is well known for it’s many whiskey distilleries including Ardbeg,Laphroaig, Bruichladdich – three of Scotland’s most famous whiskey distilleries. People who enjoy a quality whiskey can partake in tours around the island to discover how whiskey is made.

Angela recently graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Communication. She loves to travel, experience live music, and make videos. Angela studied abroad in Europe with the SDSU School of Communication in 2012. During the trip, she studied organizational communication and the rhetoric of tourism in Prague, Munich, Luxembourg, Grindelwald, and Paris. She studied Spanish for six years and is currently learning German. Her favorite quote is, "first seek to understand, then be understood." Her favorite movies are American Beauty and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
